This morning during our 8:15 a.m. worship service, we commissioned our High School students and volunteers who are right now in Russelville, Arkansas for our High School Mission Trip. It’s the first time in seven years that I’m not on this trip. I’ll admit that as mission trip rolled around this year, I was relieved that I was not knee deep in planning. Putting together one of these trips, especially at a church our size that sends almost 100 youth and adults each year, is an incredibly difficult and mind-numbing experience. But there is something else about these trips that I really will miss seeing up close this year.
During the six years I worked with High School students, the week that I spent with my students was always the most spiritual enriching experiences for my kids. The fruit that I saw in their lives when I was able to get a student to commit to going on mission trip was far beyond anything I might see in them if they were present every week in our youth worship service.
So this week, I certainly hope you will pray for safety for our kids. Mission trip is physically taxing and kids are working with power tools! They need our prayers for safety, but I also hope you will pray for God’s spirit to move and through this experience remind our kids that they are dearly loved by their heavenly Father and the hope and future of their life can be so much bigger than they ever imagined.
