Listen to a great sermon!

For my birthday, a friend of mine helped me install an audio jack to play my iPod through my car stereo. I’m really excited about having some options as to the music I listen to in the car, but the main function I’m looking forward to is the ability to keep up with the podcasts I subscribe to while driving around town.

There are several sermon podcasts that I try to listen to each week, and most weeks I’m unsuccessful. It’s not because I don’t have the time. It’s just that when I try to listen to them in the office or at other times when I have the option to multi-task, I end up not focusing on the message like I should. When I listen in the car, I really listen so I’m looking forward to having the ability to do that.

My two favorite podcasts are the Church of the Resurrection sermon podcast and Mars Hill Bible Church in Grandville, Michigan. For very different reasons, I am always blessed by the content I receive from both of these sources and as a communicator myself, I think it’s critical for me to receive if I’m going to continue to give. Adam Hamiltion of COR is doing a series right now on the last week of Jesus’ life and Rob Bell of Mars Hill is doing a series on Lamentations and the importance of weeping. Both have been really good.

If you’re interested in either of these resources, You can find more information below. Tomorrow, I’m going to share with you another of my favorite resources and a link to the best sermon I’ve heard in the last few weeks.

You’ve got my two covered. Not church related, but still pretty interesting is “This American Life” (http://www.thisamericanlife.org/). I don’t always agree with the people featured, but it always gives me a different perspective on things and allows me to see things I would have never seen on my own. I subscribe to the podcast, but it airs on NPR.

Prior to getting the jack, I had started listening more to NPR. Makes me feel old, but there really is some interesting stuff on there.

In addition to the two you mentioned, I listen to: Faithbridge UMC, Breakaway Ministries, and (my personal favorite) Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me on NPR.

Wesley, Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll definitely check those out. It was great to see you back in worship on Saturday as well.
