This morning I’m sitting at my desk for the first time in almost three weeks. I’ve been away for my Summer Sabbath which this year included some time of vacation and planning for future sermon series through May of 2010. The last three weeks have been a wonderful time of rest, reflection and renewal, and I’m thankful for the gift of that time away.
Much of my life is geared towards teaching and that’s part of what I love the most about the work that I do, but it can also leave you “drained” if you’re not diligent in protecting your own time of rest and learning. The last three weeks were a reminder to me that I need to do a better job at doing that week in and week out, and that my commitment to rest and learning is an investment in others as well as myself. In the coming weeks, I’ll share some more of the insights I received in the past three weeks about that as well as the series of messages that I’m now planning through the end of the school year.
In the meantime, it’s good to be back.
