During the message tonight, I shared that as a communicator, I am less challenged by the question, “what I want to say,” and more challenged by the thought, “well, how am I going to say that?” Because communicating isn’t about speaking… it’s about being heard.
At the end of the service, I think I said something that’s a great illustration of this idea.
During the message, I shared the thought that each of us is “perfectly positioned” [Andy Stanley used this phrase in a sermon I heard recently] to make an eternal impact on someone’s life. At the end of the service, I invited my wife up and shared with the congregation about her ladies group which was meeting following the service. While she was coming up, I said…
“Speaking of being perfectly positioned to make an eternal impact on someone else, here is one of mine.”
What I meant was this: My wife has been and continues to be perfectly positioned to make an eternal impact on me. I can’t think of anyone else who influences me more than her. What I’m afraid was heard was that I was perfectly postitioned to impact her.
I certainly hope that’s the case… but in case you heard what I said…
…I wanted to make sure you understood what I meant.
