Nehemiah Session Wrapup

beachLast night we had our fifteenth session of the Transformation Journey focused on the book of Nehemiah. We started our session last night with some time of sharing how things we’re going with our personal devotion time as well as our Tuesday night gatherings. There were some great suggestions for the future so be looking for a few “tweaks” in the handout in the coming weeks.

Again, thanks for all those who shared feedback last night. I really appreciate how your thoughts/suggestions are sharpening the success of this journey. Please also note that there were no slides for last night.

As always, you can download the handouts below. If you have any questions, comments, or other feedback, feel free to let me know.

I Chronicles Wrapup

riverLast night we had our twelfth session of the Transformation Journey focused on the book of I Chronicles. You noticed from your reading that we actually took a step back in the History of Israel from where we have been [returning again to the life of David] but at the same time, the date of the writing was after our previous books falling between 450 and 400 BC after the exile [586 BC] and the return of the Exiles [around 520's BC].

As always, you can download the handouts and slides below. If you have any questions, comments, or other feedback, feel free to let me know.

Correction: Videos Available!

I had several people ask me on Tuesday night about getting a DVD copy of one of our Easter services from this past weekend, and I discovered yesterday that I was sharing the wrong info as to their availability. We do have a limited number of copies available for each of our four worship services this past weekend, and I would be glad to help get a copy in your hands.

If you are interested in receiving a DVD of any of our Easter weekend services, shoot me an email, and I will make sure and get your copy reserved. Sorry for the confusion! I apologize for sharing the wrong info!

I Kings Session Wrapup

If you have any questions, comments, or other feedback, feel free to let me know.

Addendum to Today’s Reading

Today’s reading in the Transformation Journal comes from I Kings and speaks to the great wealth that Solomon begins to accumulate as King. One of the things we’re seeking to do as we journey through the Bible is connect the dots with some of the underlying themes we find throughout the scriptures. With that in mind, I want to encourage you to turn back today and read a section from Deuteronomy.

First here is the short section from I Kings.

King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. 24 The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart. 25 Year after year, everyone who came brought a gift—articles of silver and gold, robes, weapons and spices, and horses and mules.

26 Solomon accumulated chariots and horses; he had fourteen hundred chariots and twelve thousand horses, which he kept in the chariot cities and also with him in Jerusalem. 27 The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar as plentiful as sycamore-fig trees in the foothills. 28 Solomon’s horses were imported from Egypt and from Kue—the royal merchants purchased them from Kue. 29 They imported a chariot from Egypt for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty. They also exported them to all the kings of the Hittites and of the Arameans.

I Kings 10:23-29

And here are the words of Moses from Deuteronomy…

14 When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,” 15 be sure to appoint over you the king the LORD your God chooses. He must be from among your own brothers. Do not place a foreigner over you, one who is not a brother Israelite. 16 The king, moreover, must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself or make the people return to Egypt to get more of them, for the LORD has told you, “You are not to go back that way again.” 17 He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.

18 When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the priests, who are Levites. 19 It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees 20 and not consider himself better than his brothers and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.

II Samuel Session Wrapup

Last night, we gathered for our ninth session of Transformation Journey focused on II Samuel. At the end of March, we have already covered 9 books of the Bible! Next week, I think I”m going to spend the first 6-8 minutes just recapping all that we’ve covered so far so we stay connected to the over-arching narrative of the Old Testament. We’ve covered a lot of ground!

If you were not able to join us last night, as always you can download the handout and slides below.
