Johnny loves summer. I love the fall, and luck for me, It’s fall weather today here in the DFW area. I look forward to pulling out my long sleeve t-shirts every year and today is a great day for that apparel. I’ve thought about two things today because of the weather and because of what I picked to wear out of my closet today.
I finally talked my wife into dating during the fall many years ago. I think (hope I don’t get this wrong) that we (The entire Wesley Foundation, the ministry we were both a part of) were going to get our picture made for the A&M yearbook. It was a fall day like today and afterwards a big group of us walked back to my wife’s dorm to watch Dawson’s Creek. (That’s the shameful part of the story) Anyways, on a day like today many years ago sitting in her dorm room with all our friends watching a really bad teenage TV series, I finally got up enough nerve to try to hold her hand… and the good news is that she didn’t slap me…
The other thing that today has made me think about is that I am wearing the long sleeve shirt that I threw on about two and a half years ago when we headed to the hospital to have our first baby. I was wearing this shirt the day Anna was born. I actually got some blood on it which I thought was pretty cool, but unfortunately, it washed out….
So today, I’m thinking about both my girls and the remarkable way that they came into my life.
